“The Winds of Winter,” the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series by George RR Martin, has yet to be published even after eight years of waiting. The fifth book came out in 2011, and readers were originally hoping that “TWOW” will be out in at least two or three years, but they were disappointed.
The 71-year-old also made few promises throughout the eight years that the fans have been waiting, but he was not able to keep them. Early this year, he said that he doesn’t want to make promises anymore because he might not be able to keep it, and it will only make people hate him even more. However, in May, he suddenly posted his new promise of release for “The Winds of Winter,” and he may have done so because he is confident that the novel will be completed this time.
When is Martin’s promised release date?
In his blog, the author wrote that “The Winds of Winter” will be in his hands by the time he attends the WorldCon that is happening in July next year. But then, it is also possible that it can be in August 2020 as the even is taking place until then. Martin, clearly wrote, “If I don’t have ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.”
Will he be able to fulfill his promise this time?
No one can really give an answer to this, but then, it is likely that he can keep his promise this time. There were even reports that George RR Martin may even surprise the fans of an early release, and it can even be this Christmas!
In a new story, Express reported that an early release might be awaiting the fans as many have noticed that HBO left a cryptic tweet late last month. They are convinced that the network is referring to “The Winds of Winter” when it tweeted: “Winter is Coming.”
As it was retweeted, the news spread and more and more fans believe that a Christmas gift from GRRM is coming, and it is the publishing of “TWOW.” However, some publications pointed out that HBO may not be talking about the book but the prequel of “Game of Thrones,” which is already in the works.
Finally, it is yet to see if “The Winds of Winter” is really coming to this Christmas or fans are just suspecting too much that for them anything with the word “Winter” means the sixth book in the “ASOIAF” novel series.
