“The Winds of Winter” still failed to arrive despite the eight-year gap between the fifth book of “The Song of Fire and Ice” and the sixth. Truly, it is already very delayed, and yet George RR Martin still cannot announce an exact release date.
The long-wait is disappointing, but since Martin’s books are really good, the fans are enduring the wait especially now that the author has been talking about dates for the publishing of “The Winds of Winter” - yet again.
Martin mentioned a date and here’s what he said
Previously, George RR Martin said that he would not say a publishing date anymore because he often missed them, but in May his stance changed after being offered free tickets by New Zealand airline. The company asked him to come to their serene country so he can finish “The Winds of Winter” already, but he declined and daringly posted a date.
“If I don’t have ‘The Winds of Winter’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done,” the 70-year-old author said as if he really so sure this time.
Can he keep his promise this time?
As stated, he will have the book by the time the 78th World Science Fiction Convention opens from July 29 to Aug. 2, 2020. There are still nine to 10 months to go before his mentioned date comes so there’s a possibility that the will be done with “The Winds of Winter” by that time.
However, this will still depend if George RR Martin will remain true to his words that he will focus on writing “TWOW” before doing the other books that he is also set to release. Recently, it was reported that a prequel to “Game of Thrones” has been confirmed and the author will still serve as one of its executive producers.
This job means that he will also write a few scripts for the series and fans feared that this might become a hindrance for the completion of “The Winds of Winter.” Despite this, fans still trust him that he will stick to his promise this time and give them what they want. It is yet to see if the much-awaited book will finally find its way to the bookstores.
