Third Scaling Bitcoin Workshop invites technical proposals to improve bitcoin performance

The third ‘Scaling Bitcoin Workshop’ that will take place from October 8th-9th in Milan, Italy, has announced the call for technical proposals in order to improve bitcoin performance including designs, experimental results, among others.

According to the event website, the event is accepting two types of proposals, where accepted authors can take up the opportunity to give a 20-30 minute presentation during the workshop or can run an hour-long interactive workshop.

The goals of the proposal are two-fold: (1) to present potential solutions to scalability challenges while identifying key areas for further research and (2) provide a venue where researchers, developers, miners and community members can communicate about Bitcoin development and Ecosystem health,” the website stated.

The topics of the proposal can revolve around varied topics related to bitcoin scalability including improving bitcoin throughput; security and privacy; incentives and fee structures; testing, simulation, and modeling; network resilience and latency; block size proposals; among others. The last day for submission of proposals is on 2nd September.

Briefing about the proposal formatting, the website added, “Proposals may be submitted as a BIP or as a 1-2 page extended abstract describing ideas, designs, and expected experimental results. Indicate in the proposal whether you are interested in speaking, running an interactive workshop, or both. If you are interested in running an interactive workshop, please include an agenda.”

The workshop targets engineers in related areas of expertise, academics with related research areas and journalists affiliated with technical publications. All talks during the workshop will be live streamed with remote participation facilitated via IRC for parallel online discussion and passing questions to the event.

There are also travel subsidies available for selected presenters of an estimated 15 persons that include expenses of up to $1,500 USD per person for airfare and hotel to the workshop. Registrations are open for the workshop. Although for selected speakers, the tickets will be provided for free, there are limited tickets available for full-time students as well.
