“This Is Us” season 3 showrunners want to offer more to their avid viewers so they will try everything in the next installment. The show’s execs recently participated at the summer Television Critics Association press tour and they revealed many interesting facts that will surely delight everyone.

For starters, showrunners Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker said that “This Is Us” season 3 will “change the way viewers watch the show for good,” and this is due to the amazing experimentation that they applied to the new season. "We are challenging ourselves in season three," Aptaker told E! News. "Now that we've figured out that our audience is along for the ride ... we're kind of breaking all the rules."

He added that they swerved away from the common rules and tried something new, like the time jumps to the past and future in a manner that the viewers have not seen before. Aptaker also teased that “This Is Us” season 3 will focus more on Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and his time in Vietnam during the war.

Berger further teased that they will also explore Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack’s relationship when they were much younger.

"We'll be spending some more time in that sort of very romantic period where Jack and Rebecca first met each other, which we're really excited about,” Berger said. “It's sort of a lighter, more fun time period.”

Another thing to wait for in “This Is Us” season 3 is the Big 3’s big day. The triplets (Randall, Kate and Kevin) are celebrating their 38th birthday, and Aptaker divulged that this will be the starting point of the new season’s story.

In another interview, “This Is Us” season 3 star Justin Hartley, who plays Kevin Pearson, disclosed another major detail about the upcoming installment. On Entertainment Weekly, Hartley said that his character is bound to discover something shocking about his father Jack.

In season 2’s finale, Kevin was shown on his way to Vietnam with Beth’s cousin Zoe (Melanie Liburd). He shared that his character is going there to know more about his father’s life during the Vietnam War.

“He’s going there — it’s a healing thing for him — so he’s going to get a lot of information, some stuff that he didn’t know and didn’t expect,” he said in the interview. “And it’s going to jar a few things.”

Talking about what he will find out about Jack, Hartley said that it is super heartbreaking and shocking. It is something that no one is expecting and “No one is going to see it coming.”

The actor further explained that the development of the story was ambitious and when “This Is Us” season 3 ends, viewers will be able to connect everything that has happened since the beginning of the series.

“You’re going to be like, ‘Wow, it all works,’ but you never would see any of this coming. I don’t know what those writers are eating, but it’s brain food. They’re brilliant,” he shared.

Meanwhile, NBC already confirmed the premiere of the season. “This Is Us” season 3 is set to premiere on Sept. 25 at 9 p.m.
