Fans will have another mystery to solve in “This Is Us” season 3. The show will explore Jack Pearson’s (Milo Ventimiglia) tour duty in the Vietnam War. It should also tell fans how Jack’s brother, Nicky, died.
In the first and second seasons, fans of the NBC family drama were presented with the mystery of Jack’s death. At the same time, the writers have also inserted some bits of more unknown events in Jack’s past. And now that Jack’s cause and manner of death have been revealed, “This Is Us” season 3 is going to introduce another piece of his past, which involves his time in Vietnam with his younger brother.
The storyline of Jack’s time in Vietnam, as well as the introduction of his brother, has been confirmed on several occasions already. Milo Ventimiglia said at an Emmy consideration event on Monday (via Vulture), “It’s going to be about his time in Vietnam, it’s going to be about what happened to his brother.”
Ventimiglia also revealed that the upcoming Vietnam storyline in “This Is Us” season 3 was also inspired by the story of his own father, a Vietnam war veteran. Apart from Jack’s struggles as a soldier in war, he also has to face the tragic death of his brother.
“How did he lose his brother? That’s what I think at least for Jack what we’re really going to want to pay attention to,” Ventimiglia added. “It’s just a pretty impactful thing to have loss at that level.”
As it seems, the show will maintain its format of smoothly telling stories from the past and how it is tied to the present. What’s even better is “This Is Us” season 3 is obviously going to tackle plots focused on Jack’s life way before he met Rebecca (Mandy Moore).

Meanwhile, the introduction of Nicky in “This Is Us” season 3 is apparently going to take center stage as well. Recently, it was confirmed that “Will & Grace” star Michael Angarano has been signed to play the role. Fans will meet Nicky once “This Is Us” season 3 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
