The trend towards online sales is helping drive increased spending during Black Friday. Last year shoppers spent $650 billion during the Black Friday sales week and this year’s total is expected to be up by 4.5% on 2016.
Black Friday has evolved into an online sales phenomenon in recent years, meaning shoppers no longer have to panic about chaotic scenes in stores. Last year more people shopped online than in store during the Black Friday sales period, according to the National Retail Federation.
Online sales begin in the week leading up to Black Friday, which lands on November 24th this year, and continue through to Cyber Monday on November 27th.
