The Philippines is a beautiful country with so much to offer. It's a great place to travel with children, and there are plenty of things to do in the cities and around the island nation.
Traveling with kids can sometimes be overwhelming, especially across the world to somewhere like the Philippines. As long as you make sure you have all the information you need before you go, you can enjoy your trip without worrying.
Before setting off for the trip of a lifetime, you’ll need to ensure all of your family has the right documents. This may mean a specific travel permit, such as a visa to the Philippines from Australia or the United States.
Once you’re all prepared, you can start thinking about logistics. We’ve put together a guide of the most essential travel information, to make your trip as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Choosing Family Accommodation in the Philippines
A resort with a swimming pool will be a hit with kids if they're old enough to swim. This can give them something fun to do while you're enjoying time together or taking care of other matters like sightseeing or shopping.
If your child is old enough (and brave enough), look for an adventure park nearby where they can ride zip lines through the jungle canopy or take rafting trips down rivers filled with crocodiles! This makes for great memories of your trip together.
If you want a place closer to nature without having to rough it out on an island or hike into the mountains, look into staying at one of the many eco-lodges around the country. Animal-watching is often one of the main attractions in these lodges type, which the whole family will love.
Traveling Around the Philippines With Children
Don't forget your umbrella! It's easy to underestimate how hot it will be in the Philippines, even when you're travelling during Filipino winter. Make sure everyone has an umbrella or hat if they're going out in the sun.
You should make sure everyone has comfortable shoes—you'll be doing a lot of walking to get from A to B. It's worth spending extra money on good walking shoes for adults and children, as you'll want to make sure everyone is comfortable during long treks through busy cities like Manila or Cebu City.
Pregnant women should avoid riding on jeepneys. They're usually not well-maintained, and the roads can be bumpy. If your family needs to ride a jeepney, get a seat at the front or back of the vehicle so that your bump isn't jostled around as much by other passengers.
Restaurants
Don’t be scared to try Filipino food. While most people know about Filipino cuisine, not everyone has tried it. You can find Filipino food all over the country, but some of the best places to eat it are in Manila and Cebu City.
Look for restaurants near parks or beaches. Many restaurants offer great views of beautiful scenery like parks or beaches while you're eating your meal. If you're traveling with kids, this can be a great way to keep them entertained while they wait for their food!
If you want something with a little more atmosphere and comfort, there are lots of restaurants that specialize in serving families at reasonable prices. These restaurants are usually located near malls or tourist attractions, so they can be easily found by travelers who are looking for something new.
Supermarkets
Bring cash with you when you go shopping. Many supermarkets do not accept credit cards or checks from customers who aren't members of their loyalty program, so make sure that you have enough money in cash before heading out.
Most supermarkets have sections dedicated to international brands—these are usually easy to find because they're often at eye level or near the entrance of the store. Keep an eye out for these sections when browsing for products from home.
If you're looking for authentic foods that aren't found in traditional restaurants, try visiting local markets where locals shop for their groceries every day. This will give you a chance to learn more about how Filipinos live and what they eat on a regular basis.
Family-friendly Activities
There are many kid-friendly activities that can be found all over the country. These include visiting museums such as the National Museum, exploring colorful markets like those in Pasay City or Parañaque City, riding around in jeepneys, and taking part in cultural activities like watching dance performances or singing karaoke (a favorite among Filipinos!)
There are also an infinite number of activities you can do with your family to explore the country’s incredible nature. Swim with dolphins, ride horses, hike to waterfalls or beaches, and try out water sports like parasailing.
One of the largest urban parks in the Philippines, Rizal Park is a great place to take your family if they're looking for some outdoor activity. There are plenty of amenities and facilities available—including a playground and a swimming pool—but what makes this park stand out is its location. It's right in the middle of Manila, which means you can get there easily from anywhere in the city.
