Toyota Motor Corp. started selling the new RAV4, its first plug-in hybrid SUV in Japan, starting at $42,840.
The RAV4's high-powered motor provides a more extended range and better acceleration than its conventional hybrid model.
It has an overall range of 1,300 kilometers and can reach up to 95 kilometers on battery power alone.
The RAV4 is also equipped with on-board power sockets that allow it to function as a power source for over three days in the outdoors or during emergencies.
The automaker looks to commit more to the electric vehicle market due to better traveling performance, comfortability, and improved eco-friendliness.
Toyota aims to sell 300 units per month in Japan.
