Donald Trump, the president-elect, traveled to Washington on a U.S. military aircraft provided by outgoing President Joe Biden ahead of Monday’s inauguration celebrations. Trump opted for the government plane over his usual "Trump Force One," marking a return to tradition in the presidential transition.

The specially outfitted Boeing 757-200, bearing the iconic blue-and-white livery and "United States of America" lettering, departed from Palm Beach International Airport on Saturday. Trump’s family, including son Eric, daughter Ivanka, and their spouses, were spotted boarding separate aircraft before the flight.

Biden’s gesture contrasts sharply with the 2021 transition when Trump refused to attend Biden’s inauguration. Biden had planned to arrive by train but switched to a private jet due to heightened security concerns following the January 6 Capitol attack.

This weekend’s flight echoes Trump’s 2017 use of a similar government aircraft for his first term inauguration. The military plane, typically referred to as Air Force Two when carrying the vice president or other top officials, reflects the long-standing custom of providing official transportation to incoming presidents.

Despite differing political contexts, Biden has emphasized maintaining traditional norms for transitions, ensuring a smoother process this time around.

The White House and U.S. Air Force have yet to comment on the travel arrangements.

Trump's return to Washington signifies the start of celebrations as he prepares to assume office, aiming to build on his previous term.
