Turkish headline inflation decelerated slightly on a month-on-month basis. On a sequentially basis, the consumer price inflation came in at 1.62 percent, as compared with April’s 1.87 percent. On a year-on-year basis, inflation accelerated to 12.15 percent from 10.85 percent.
On a sequential basis, clothing and footwear saw the highest month rise, recording a rise of 5.21 percent. The indices for transportation, miscellaneous goods and services, for hotels, cafes and restaurants and for food and non-alcoholic beverages came in at 2.33 percent, 2.06 percent and 1.45 percent, respectively. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco came in at 0.15 percent.
There was no decrease in the main expenditure groups in May 2018. The least monthly rise was in alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.15 percent amongst main expenditure groups.
On a year-on-year basis, the highest annual rise was 20.02 percent in transportation. Furnishing and household equipment came in at 16.78 percent, whereas miscellaneous goods and services came in at 15.38 percent. The highest monthly rise was 2.66 percent in TR81.
