IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 28, 2018 -- When competing in today’s global marketplace, real-world experience is a valuable advantage for students and graduates. An immersive educational experience may make the difference for university admissions teams or hiring managers seeking to fill a limited number of spaces. To meet the demand for international experiential learning opportunities, University of California, Irvine Division of Continuing Education introduces Experience University Research (EUR). This full-time, three-week, non-credit program, offered on the UCI campus – a #9 ranked public university by the U.S. News & World Report, offers international students the opportunity to live and learn as UCI students in a city that has earned the FBI’s ‘Safest City’ designation for the 12th consecutive year.
Tailored specifically for high school and university students from abroad (aged 15+), EUR allows learners to select from and delve into some of UCI’s most popular academic areas of study. Students will develop strong research, writing and presentation skills in English through hands-on classroom study while partnering with native English-speaking UCI students. In addition to coursework, students will explore southern California with university staff, live in campus dormitories, and enjoy UCI’s campus amenities.
“Experiential learning gives students the opportunity to bridge academic study and life, developing skills and knowledge that will be easily recalled and applied later in the classroom or on-the-job,” says Karl Kottman, Manager, ESL & TEFL Custom Designed Programs, UCI Division of Continuing Education. “Emphasizing both classroom learning and direct involvement, EUR allows active, engaged learners to effectively transfer what they learn in the classroom to new environments and contexts.”
Registration is currently open for both 2018 program dates: July 8-28, and August 5-25. Applicants must be at least 15 years old, in high school or university, and possess an F-1 Student Visa. It is recommended that candidates have a TOEFL iBT score of 60 (or equivalent) and apply by May 1, 2018.
Students may select from these elective areas of study:
- Social Ecology – Environmental Analysis and Design
- Biology – Biology of Oriental Medicine
- Engineering – Designing and Integrating IoT Devices
- Business – Project Management
- Law – International Business Law
- Computer Science – Advanced Programming
