The United Kingdom and the United States are preparing to finalize a landmark technology agreement during President Donald Trump’s upcoming state visit to the UK, according to the British Embassy in Washington. The three-day visit, beginning Tuesday, will include top U.S. executives such as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI’s Sam Altman.
The agreement is expected to strengthen collaboration between the two nations’ trillion-dollar technology sectors, creating new opportunities for businesses and consumers across both sides of the Atlantic. While final terms are still under discussion, the partnership will focus on strategic areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, telecommunications, and quantum computing.
UK Technology Secretary Liz Kendall emphasized the transformative power of cutting-edge technologies like AI and quantum computing, stating that they will play a central role in shaping the future of society and global economies. Kendall, who assumed her role on September 5, highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to advancing technological innovation.
The visit will also feature significant investment announcements. BlackRock is planning to allocate $700 million to British data centers, according to Sky News, marking one of several deals expected to be revealed during the state visit. The investment reflects growing confidence in the UK’s tech infrastructure and its role as a hub for international collaboration.
Both countries have published AI Action Plans this year, further underscoring their focus on responsible innovation and cross-border cooperation. U.S. firms such as Anthropic and OpenAI are expanding operations in London, while UK leaders like DeepMind continue to deepen partnerships with American counterparts.
This historic technology pact aims to solidify the UK-U.S. alliance in the global tech landscape, ensuring long-term growth and leadership in emerging fields that will define the future of digital economies.
