The UK government approved the development of the $555 million Cleve Hill Solar Park, which would be the country's largest solar park, on the north Kent coast.
The project would be a joint venture between Hive Energy and Wirsol Energy.
The 350-megawatt solar farm will use 880,000 solar panels and could power over 91,000 homes.
The project would include an energy storage facility that would send electricity to the grid.
U.K. is aiming for a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and is seeking to remove coal from its energy system by October 1, 2024.
However, there are concerns about the solar farm's impact on the local landscape and wildlife.
But the project's developers have collaborated with local groups and nature conservationists as to the design of the scheme.
In the same week, the Leicestershire County Council announced plans for a solar farm that could produce nearly 10,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually.
