The United States could be prepared to launch military action against Iran as early as Saturday, according to a report from The Telegraph citing defense officials who recently briefed President Donald Trump. The report suggests that a significant U.S. military buildup in the Middle East is nearing completion, positioning American forces for possible airstrikes if authorization is given.
Officials reportedly informed Trump that the deployment of additional aircraft and naval assets will reach operational readiness by the weekend. In recent days, approximately 50 fighter jets, air-to-air refueling tankers, and support aircraft have been moved to the region. The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group is also expected to arrive in the eastern Mediterranean soon, joining existing U.S. naval forces.
This expanded military presence would enable sustained air operations, potentially allowing continuous bombardment of Iranian targets for weeks. The buildup includes enhanced ground-based missile defense systems across the Middle East, designed to shield U.S. troops, regional allies in the Gulf, and Israel from possible Iranian missile retaliation.
While the Pentagon has reportedly outlined several military options, President Trump has not yet made a final decision on whether to initiate a strike. According to The Wall Street Journal, potential strategies include targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, weakening the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and disrupting command-and-control infrastructure. Other options under consideration may involve strikes aimed at senior Iranian leadership, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as part of broader efforts to pressure Tehran.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump warned that “really bad things” could happen if negotiations with Iran fail, emphasizing that the United States intends to secure a deal “one way or the other.” As tensions rise, global markets and geopolitical analysts are closely monitoring developments surrounding a possible U.S.-Iran conflict.
