US Election Series: Jill Stein raises $4.5 million to challenge election outcome

This year’s green party candidate Jill Stein has raised about $4.5 million via crowdfunding and looking to raise more in order to challenge the outcomes of the election in several key swing states. She is planning to challenge the outcome in three swing states; Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. In order to trigger a recount, one has to file before the deadlines in different states. For Wisconsin the deadline is today, for Pennsylvania it is Wednesday, and for Michigan it is Wednesday. While Stein herself has no chance of winning any of these states, she says that she is acting due to compelling evidence of voting anomalies and data analysis has indicated significant discrepancies in total votes.

If she could raise around $7 million, which is a very likely scenario, she is likely to call for recounts in all three of these states. These states offer 46 electoral, among which Trump has won 30 and Michigan with its 16 electoral votes is yet to announce a victor. Trump is set to win Michigan too, however, his margin of win is relatively small in these states so there is a relatively strong possibility that the results could swing in favor of Hillary Clinton.

This is set to trigger massive uncertainties surrounding the election outcome. The United States could plunge into an all-out civil war and chaos should the results swing in favor of Hillary Clinton. Most of Donald Trump’s supporters are smelling foul play in this.
