Democratic front runner Hilary Clinton and Republican front runner Donald Trump, both secured a win in New York, firming their claims to become presidential nominees. While Hilary’s won was by significant margin, Trump almost swept the entire delegates available.
On the Democratic side, Hilary has secured, 135 delegates, while Bernie Sanders won 104, eight are yet to be decided. With New York win, Hilary is leading the campaign with 1424 delegates to Sanders’ 1149. Either of them will have to secure 2383 delegates for outright nomination win. 1692 delegates are still up for grab. But if we add up the Super delegates, Hilary is leading far ahead with 1893 delegates to Sanders’ 1180. New York win is a big relief for Hilary who lost in previous seven primaries against Sanders.
On the republican side, Donald Trump has won 89 of 95 Delegates, while Kasich won 3 and 3 are yet to be decided. New York is Donald Trump’s home State and he was expected to win there. With this result, Trump is now leading with 845 delegates, against Cruz’s 559 and Kasich’s 147. They will have to secure 1237 candidates to secure outright nomination. 734 candidates are still up for grab.
Next key date is April 26th for both Democrats and Republicans, when Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Delaware go to vote.
