There’s no denying that “Venom 2” will be adding Cletus Kasady, a.k.a. Carnage, into its lineup. The question is how they’re going to handle and portray him as the next big bad of the sequel.
While nothing has been revealed about the character’s plot, it’s already been announced that “Venom 2” will not be Rated-R, Collider reported. This is disheartening given that Carnage has a penchant for extreme violence, which can open up a lot of creative avenues to be explored.
But even though this is the case, it’s expected that Carnage will be a compelling character to explore, especially since Woody Harrelson is playing the blood-thirsty symbiote. In lieu of portraying his violent nature, producer Avi Arad said that “Venom 2” will be diving deep into Carnage’s inclinations instead.
“When you hear Carnage, the only thing you can think of is R. But, if you know his story, if you really know the comic, there’s no R here,” Arad said. “He’s a tortured soul. It’s not about what he does, because we never have to show the knife going from here to there, and the blood is pouring. What you have to show is, what is the motivation?” Arad went on to say that “Venom 2” will be attempting to give the audience a reason to empathize with Carnage.
As for the possibility of the sequel referencing the MCU, there’s still no news about it either. (Warning: “Avengers: Endgame” spoilers ahead.) However, given that “Endgame” explored a multi-timeline narrative, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his extraterrestrial passenger (also Tom Hardy) could end up hurled towards the universe that Disney created. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is already taking advantage of this fact as it’s dealing with the aftermath that resulted in the Gauntlet pulling in several characters from different universes. Of course, all of these are merely speculation, and there’s no telling if “Venom 2” will hint that a crossover will be happening. But here’s to hoping that it does.
Regarding when the sequel will come out, speculations are hinting that it may drop this October as the first film debuted during this time. Whatever the case, “Venom 2” is expected to perform well at the box office, especially with Hardy and Harrelson spearheading the movie.
