BROOKLYN, N.Y., July 21, 2017 -- Veterinary Wellness Center of Boerum Hill announced a special on its Basic Vaccine Package. This package covers all of the core vaccines for dogs or cats, plus a pest prevention injection that lasts for six months. It’s a great option for new pet owners as well as those who would like to refresh all of their companions' major vaccines in one visit. These packages start at $150 for core vaccines.
The importance of vaccines for dogs and cats cannot be overstated. These animals are often exposed to disease-causing germs obtained from coming into contact with infected humans, animals, or parasites. Without vaccines, pets can easily catch infections and diseases even through incidental contact.
"We have core vaccine programs for both dogs and cats. These programs include four different vaccines that can be given in a single visit, so they're very convenient for owners. During this special, we're making it even easier for pets to be vaccinated by starting the package at just $150," said Dr. Michael Arpino, medical director at the Veterinary Wellness Center of Boerum Hill.
For dogs, the core vaccines are parvovirus, canine distemper, canine hepatitis, and rabies. Dogs also have the option of getting a shot of ProHeart® 6, the 6-month heartworm prevention vaccine, at the same time. For cats, the core vaccines are feline distemper, feline calicivirus, feline herpesvirus type I (rhinotracheitis), and rabies.
"For puppies and kittens, the core vaccines are given as a series of shots over several weeks. This allows their immune systems to develop safely. Adult pets that need booster shots, on the other hand, only need to come in every one to three years," Dr. Arpino explained.
While the core set of shots is considered the most important for pets, it's important to note that there are several other vaccines available. Further recommended vaccines are best determined by the pet's lifestyle, whether or not it will be boarded, and other factors. Therefore, a consultation with a veterinarian is recommended when determining which of these should be obtained.
All Basic Vaccine Packages from Veterinary Wellness Center of Boerum Hill also include heartworm testing, feline leukemia testing (for cats only), and stool sample testing. A consultation with the veterinarian is also part of the $150 starting package.
