CBS News said an internal-record review found Villa Vie carried several million dollars in debt during Odyssey’s August stop in Singapore, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills unpaid. The outstanding amounts covered crew pay, port services and suppliers of food and fuel.

CBS News reported that a Villa Vie resident paid a fuel supplier $400,000 from a personal checking account, helping Odyssey continue its route. Another passenger told CBS News the three-year cruise may have been priced too cheaply.

Villa Vie suspended Odyssey operations while the ship was in Cambodia amid high fuel costs, CBS News reported. That decision disrupted passengers’ plans and finances, the outlet said.

EconoTimes previously reported on the suspension and Villa Vie’s financial strain.
