Whether you’re looking to save some money at home before you go travelling, or you want to get out there and earn some money as you go, there are countless ways you can fund your global travels without having to hold down a monotonous nine-to-five job. We’d be here forever if we were to list all the different options to make a bit of money before we can jump on a plane, catch a train or hire a car and gallivant across beautiful places from Scotland to Madrid to Australia, but here are just some of the easy options you could go for.
Money box
Sometimes, one of the best ways to save a few pounds is to resort to a good old-fashioned money box. If you treat yourself to a special Terramundi Money Pot, you can put the coins in, but you can’t get them out again until the pot is full and you’re ready to smash it open. Top tip? Save every £2 coin that you end up with and pop them in the pot – it’ll soon add up!
Cut unnecessary expenditure
Sit down and take a proper look at your finances and decide on how best you can budget for your trip. There are bound to be a number of areas where you can cut back on unnecessary spending, such as cancelling the gym membership you never use or sacrificing your daily coffee. Always remember to regularly check your insurance policies, mobile phone tariffs and gas and electricity providers to check that you’re getting the best deal available, especially if the auto-renew.
Teach English as a foreign language
A great way of earning some money while you’re on the road is to take a TEFL course before you go and get qualified to teach English to different people around the world. As well as earning on the go, you can use your qualification at home to, to save up in advance. Teaching is such a rewarding experience and really allows you to delve into different cultures and get a deeper insight into others’ ways of life.
Set up a blog
If you’ve got a flair for the written word and know how to string a sentence or two together – and people want to read it – then you should consider setting up a blog. Blog writing has a number of advantages when it comes to trying to make some extra cash for travelling. You can get your work commissioned as a freelance writer, you can get paid to write reviews, you can sell advertising space on your site and you can use affiliate links to get some money back on purchases people make thanks to you.
Get a temporary job on the road
Failing all of the above, if you have the right visas, you can quite easily get a temporary job while you’re away travelling as and when you need it. If you’re running a bit low on cash, see if there’s any work available on a local farm or see about picking up some shifts at a restaurant or bar for a few weeks. Even if it means staying put in a place for a little bit longer than planned, it’ll be worth it to not have to come home before you’re ready to.
Regardless of how much or how little money you’ve got in your bank, there’s always a way to fund travelling. You’ve just got to find the one that’s right for you and run with it.
