Wiper, a chat app launched in 2014, has added bitcoin to its chatting platform. Speaking to CoinDesk, CEO Manlion Carekki said that messaging could be the logical starting point for the cryptocurrency adoption.
Carelli noted that the digital currency is difficult for beginners to use and said, "Wiper's goal is to make it more accessible to even first time smartphone users, so that its promise can be realised," he added.
Wiper also offers an integrated bitcoin wallet which enables users to send and receive bitcoins from their contacts in the app. Although it did not reveal the total number of wallets opened so far, Carelli said that he is happy with the response, especially from the Asian user base.
In contrast to other similar messaging apps offering payment functionality, Wiper makes this service available without a bank account or debit card.
He added that his company's mission was "to bring this amazing new tool to mainstream users around the world", and the embedded wallet along with sending and receiving functions are the basis for Wiper to "build a complete solution to making bitcoin an everyday tool".
