‘Wolverine 3’ is speculated to introduce Logan’s female clone X-23. Photographs revealed returning lead actor Hugh Jackman with a young actress during filming on the New Orleans set.
According to Moviepilot, the third installment in the ‘X-Men’ standalone cinematic series may introduce new characters including Laura Kinney a.k.a. X-23. The character is a clone of the mutant Wolverine and was raised in captivity and trained as a living weapon by a secret government agency.
She was created by writer Craig Kyle for the animated series ‘X-Men: Evolution’. She then debuted in the NYX comic series in 2004.
X-23 was cloned from a damaged copy of Wolverine’s genome. She possesses the same powers and abilities as her predecessor. She has the powerful regenerative healing factor Wolverine is known for and also shares his superhuman strength, speed, agility, and senses. Her skeleton also includes two retractable claws in each arm and one in each foot.
Due to her extensive training as a covert operative, she is a master of various assassination techniques. She is also an expert in martial arts, specifically hand-to-hand combat.
Meanwhile, new set photographs posted on Just Jared showed Hugh Jackman filming an action scene in New Orleans, Louisiana. The images featured Jackman’s Logan a.k.a. Wolverine escaping from a limousine covered in bullet holes. He is also seen looking much older with greying hair on his trademark beard.
The upcoming film is rumored to feature the controversial ‘Old Man Logan’ storyline from the original Marvel comic book series that began in 2008. This storyline takes place 50 years in the future where supervillains have teamed up to conquer and destroy all superheroes.
According to MovieWeb, the sequel is confirmed to be R-rated. It was also rumored that the third film will be entitled ‘Weapon X’ but this is yet to be confirmed. Previous photographs revealed an unidentified girl working alongside Jackman. She was rumored to be the actress playing X-23 but this is yet to be confirmed as well.
‘Wolverine 3’ is an upcoming action and science-fiction film based on the popular X-Men character of the same name. It is intended to be the sequel to 2013’s ‘The Wolverine’ and will feature the return of Hugh Jackman in the title role. The film will mark Jackman’s final appearance as the mutant in the shared ‘X-Men’ films.
Its predecessor, ‘The Wolverine’, earned $414.8 million worldwide against a $120 million budget. It is considered the fourth highest-grossing film in the franchise.
