About WED / #ChooseWOMEN
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day [WED] was founded by social entrepreneur, humanitarian, Animal Fair Media founder and Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient Wendy Diamond in 2014 after she learned of the impact empowering women financially can have on men, women and children in global communities. By celebrating, supporting, and empowering women, WED ignites women leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs to initiate startups, drive economic expansion, and advance communities worldwide. Throughout the year, WED gathers women leaders to ultimately create a think tank and expand businesses with socially good initiatives around the world. Student ambassadors are engaged at Clarkson, Babson, Duke, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, U of Penn, Yale and others.
In the spirit of Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday, WED has created #ChooseWOMEN Wednesday which falls on the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving. This year it will be celebrated on November 30th and will help drive conversation and inspire consumers to support and empower women entrepreneurs and their businesses in developing countries. ChooseWomen.org will allow consumers to shop from over 70 top retailers who have joined WED including, Bobbi Brown, Spanx, Lilly Pulitzer, Coach, ASOS, Cynthia Rowley, Lulus, The Limited and Folica. With every sale generated through ChooseWomen.org, a percentage will fund essential microloans for impoverished women around the world to start their own businesses.
