Xiaomi unveiled its latest flagship series, the Xiaomi 12, right at the end of 2021. The three-device lineup has been only sold in China after its announcement, but a new report claims that is about to change in the coming weeks.
Android Planet cited several sources claiming that the Xiaomi 12 will launch in Europe and other markets outside China soon. The same report (via machine translation) indicated that it is aware of the specific date when the series will be launched globally, but the detail was removed from the article per Xiaomi’s request. But the publication says an online event is slated for mid-March.
The report noted that the phones will launch with the tagline “Master every scene,” suggesting that Xiaomi will emphasize the Xiaomi 12’s photography features and capabilities. However, Android Planet said it is still unclear which Xiaomi 12 models will be sold in other markets.
Xiaomi unveiled three models, namely the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12X. The first two devices are powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while the 12X uses Snapdragon 870.
There are notable differences in their cameras as well. The Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro both feature a 50MP main camera. But the base model, along with the Xiaomi 12X, has a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 5MP telephoto macro sensor. The Pro model, on the other hand, sports a triple 50MP camera module. All three devices have a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies.
The Xiaomi 12 and 12X have a 6.28-inch display. The Xiaomi 12 Pro sports a larger 6.73-inch screen and it is the only device in the lineup with an LTPO AMOLED panel.
An earlier report on the anticipated Xiaomi 12 global launch suggested that the 12X’s price starts at €600 for the 8GB + 128GB configuration. The regular Xiaomi 12 could cost €800 with the same memory options. Lastly, the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s starting price is rumored at €1,000 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Meanwhile, there were also reports that Xiaomi could be working on a “Xiaomi 12 Mini” or a “Xiaomi 12 Lite.” The company has yet to confirm these devices’ existence, but they are unlikely to be part of the launch event later this month.
