Zoom is giving outside developers and AI agents access to its workplace capabilities through new APIs as it builds a system to link conversations with records across connected apps.
At Zoomtopia on Oct. 20, Zoom introduced the Unified Context Layer, designed to bring conversation records together with business documents, data and recent activity from Zoom and connected applications. The company says configurable controls will let organizations manage access. It presents the system as a way to help workers and agents recover the background to tasks across separate tools. Zoom has not announced a general availability date for the layer. EconoTimes previously covered the Oct. 20 announcement.
Zoom says its Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and Search & Ask APIs let developers and AI agents use Zoom capabilities outside its app; both are available now. ZoomMate Agent Teams, which coordinate specialized AI agents, are also available, the company said.
Zoom Virtual Agent's customer count rose 256% year over year in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, which ended July 31, 2026. The company's results did not include the customer total. In August, Zoom forecast fiscal 2027 revenue of $5.085 billion to $5.095 billion.
“AI models are only as powerful as their understanding of your business,” Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan said. The company also cited a survey of 500 U.S.-based knowledge workers, saying users of its AI tools reported completing tasks twice as fast. Zoom said 72% rated AI's business impact high or extremely high, compared with a 63% market average.
My Notes Workflows, which can send meeting summaries to tools such as Zoom Chat and Salesforce, are expected in October. Zoom expects Enriched Notes, Customer Profiles and CX Insights Transcript Intelligence in November, followed by Follow the Meeting and a refreshed Zoom Chat in December.
