Zoom Communications, Inc. announced a Unified Context Layer on Oct. 20 that is designed to connect workplace conversations with company records, extending its effort to sell AI tools for follow-up work.
Announced at its Zoomtopia conference, the layer is intended to bring together information from meetings, calls and chats with documents and activity in connected applications. Zoom lists a search tool covering Zoom Meetings, Phone and Chat and more than 40 third-party applications as available now. Its Search & Ask APIs, which let other software query information from the layer, are also available.
ZoomMate Agent Teams is available now, the company said. It divides a project among AI agents and gathers their work for human review. Zoom gave no general availability date for the context layer itself, although it set rollout windows for individual features.
Zoom has identified new AI revenue streams as a strategic priority. Its product information says advanced ZoomMate features, including search and workflow automation, use metered AI credits. The company has not specified a separate price for the layer. In its fiscal second quarter ended July 31, 2026, Zoom reported revenue of $1,277.2 million, up 4.9% from a year earlier, and said its Zoom Virtual Agent customer count increased 256% year over year.
Zoom says configurable settings and controls help manage access to the layer’s information. Christine Sarros, senior vice president of Enterprise Engineering at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, said in Zoom’s announcement that its products “could help bring that context together” for teams whose information is spread across systems.
In November 2026, Zoom plans to let users start its workflows from Claude and Codex. It also expects to release Customer Profiles, designed to carry customer history between service interactions, that month. Follow Meeting and centralized AI management tools are expected in December, followed by custom rules for AI output in the first quarter of 2027. The next stated rollout window is October 2026 for My Notes Workflows, which is designed to send meeting summaries to tools such as Salesforce.
