Elizabeth Elliott

Professor of Paediatrics & Child Health and Director of the Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit, University of Sydney
Elizabeth Elliott AM is Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Sydney and Consultant Paediatrician, at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney. She holds a prestigious Practitioner Research Fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. She is Founder and Director of the Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit, which facilitates research on rare, debilitating childhood diseases through reporting by paediatricians nationally and in 2008 instigated development of a national plan for rare diseases in Australia. She heads the Centre for Evidence-Based Paediatrics in Sydney.

Her research focus is rare diseases, including fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). She is Chief Investigator for the Lililwan Project – to address FASD in the remote Fitzroy Valley in the Kimberley, Western Australia. Since 2005 Elizabeth has run education workshops for clinicians in remote Dien Bien Province, Vietnam to address high maternal and child mortality. In 2008 she attended the Prime Minister’s 2020 summit; was made a Member of the Order of Australia for service to paediatrics and child health; and in 2011 was awarded the College Medal from Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Community contributions include to SMILE Foundation, Cure Kids Australia, Steve Waugh Foundation, Women's College, Guides NSW and the Hoc Mai Australia Vietnam Medical Foundation.
