iOS 9.1 launch likely in late October or November

Apple released iOS 9.1 beta 3, a pre-release version of iOS 9.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, with build identified as 13B5130b, last week. As with earlier versions, the company warned that devices updated to iOS 9.1 cannot be restored to former versions of iOS.

It provides support for developing iOS apps for iPhone, iPad or iPod and is packaged with a complete set of Xcode tools, compilers, and frameworks for creating apps for iOS and OS X. These tools include the Xcode IDE and the Instruments analysis tool, among many others.

The new features that come with iOS 9.1 include live photos and support for Apple Pencil. The iOS 9.1 update is also expected to bring several new emojis to the iPhone and iPad. ios9guide.com lists the devices that are supposed to support iOS 9.1:

  • iPad 3
  • iPad 4
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air 3
  • iPad Pro

  • iPad mini 4

The release date and time for the update hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it is expected that iPad Pro will ship with iOS 9.1. With the iPad Pro release set for November (shipping date not confirmed), speculations are rife that the latest iOS upgrade will release towards the end of this month or in November.
