iPhone SE 2 has appeared in many rumors since its predecessor was released in 2016. It proved to be a good entry-level iPhone-branded device, so it was not surprising that many tech fans were expecting an iPhone SE 2 in the following year.
The anticipated announcement still has not happened, and Apple has been silent about the development of the device. But the rumor mill has been turning non-stop for iPhone SE 2 in the previous weeks. Reports coming from a reliable industry source suggest the device would be released in the coming months without one Apple feature.
iPhone SE 2 features, price: What to expect from Apple’s next budget phone?
Apple has yet to recognize the iPhone SE 2. But a slew of information has been circulating online over the previous weeks, thanks to reliable tech industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Tech fans now have a fairly good idea of what the iPhone SE 2 would look like and what features it would have. Most people may be wondering whether Apple will add the Face ID on its next budget smartphone. Unfortunately, that is reportedly not the plan.
Since Face ID launched along with iPhone X in 2017, the facial recognition tech has been the staple biometric authentication system on Apple smartphones released in the following years. But Kuo reported that the iPhone SE 2 is designed similar to iPhone 8’s appearance – the last iPhone with a home button. It is then safe to expect that the physical home button that also houses the Touch ID scanner to make a comeback in 2020.
Upgrades could still be expected on the iPhone SE 2. It is reported to have Apple’s latest A13 chip. Aside from delivering faster and more efficient performance, having the A13 chip also means the rumored device could support the latest and upcoming iOS versions. The device is anticipated to cost $399 – just a $50 increase from the first-generation iPhone SE.
iPhone SE 2 release date: Much-awaited device launching early in 2020
Another note from Kuo has been reported by AppleInsider recently, providing a more specific release date window for iPhone SE 2. The analyst claimed that the device would enter production in January 2020 in time for its purported release date sometime in March next year.
