After years of speculation on what Nintendo’s next console offering will be, which were then promptly answered by all of the leaks that came out about what was then known as the “NX,” it’s finally here. Only, it’s called “Switch” and although it confirms a lot of what the leaks have already shown, there are still many features that Nintendo managed to keep under wraps.
Among the leaked aspects of the console that were just confirmed includes the use of the Tegra chip by Nvidia on the console, Digital Trend reports. This should give gamers an idea of the kind of performance the unit is capable of delivering. However, other internal components such as the processor, storage and so on haven’t been released, so there is still room to speculate.
Based on the trailer released about the device, it’s capable of allowing gaming portability on a level that doesn’t exist anywhere else. From a home gaming console that’s connected to the TV, players can remove the portable unit to take anywhere to be played like a 3DS.
Unlike a 3DS or any other handheld gaming device, the controllers can be removed from the portable unit so that it can stand on its own, thus giving players mini peripherals with which to play. It’s basically portable on several levels.
As for the games that the Sprint can play, among the confirmed titles is the upcoming “Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wilds” and a new 3D “Super Mario” game. The trailer also alluded to the fact that it can play “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Re-Mastered” but this has not been officially confirmed.
What is confirmed is that several third-party developers are going to be throwing in their support for Nintendo’s console, including heavy hitters like From Software and Ubisoft. This will provide the Switch with much-needed muscle, which was absent for the Wii and the Wii U.
More than anything else, it would also seem that Nintendo is taking a different approach in marketing the Switch as well, Gamasutra notes. Instead of trying its best to court a mobile audience, which it tried and failed to do with the Wii U, it is instead focusing on giving its loyal fan base the gaming experience they want.
