Cate Blanchett stars in Gary Ross' 'Ocean's Eight'

She admitted her excitement to star in the all-female spin-off of the popular ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ franchise during a recent interview. Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ film is set to battle it out with Paramount’s ‘Transformers 6’ on the June 2018 release date.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Blanchett expressed her excitement in starring in the planned all-female spin-off of the heist-comedy franchise ‘Ocean’s Eleven’. She said, “I’m excited too. It’s going to be its own thing. [Producer] Steven Soderbergh will be all over it but [director] Gary Ross has been behind the scenes for all the previous ones and understands that universe. So this an interesting side step.”

Although plot details remain unknown, it was reported that ‘Ocean’s Eight’ will feature a heist as well as the Met Gala. Blanchett confirmed that she attended a real-life Met Gala back in 2007 when she chaired one with Nicolas Ghesquière and François-Henri Pinault. She said, “So I know it from that angle but this is an entirely different thing. It’s like giving a kid a camera on Christmas day and suddenly seeing things from their perspectives. The whole thing, the way it’s put together, it’s really smart and fun.”

When asked about her character, she replied, “I probably shouldn’t go into too much detail but I play a long-time cohort. It feels fun. I must admit, I get excited about who is making it and who is in it, and then I want to be surprised by it.”

The multi-award winning actress is set to star in the new film together with other Hollywood heavyweights including Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, and Rihanna.

Blanchett gained international acclaim for her work in films such as the 1998 British biographical film ‘Elizabeth’ and its 2007 sequel ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’, the 2004 biographical-drama film ‘The Aviator’, the 2006 British psychological-thriller film ‘Notes On a Scandal’, the 2007 biographical musical-drama film ‘I’m Not There’, the 2013 drama film ‘Blue Jasmine’, and the 2015 romantic-drama film ‘Carol’.

She has procured numerous accolades through her career in the entertainment industry including two Academy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is set to pit the upcoming spin-off film against Paramount Pictures’ highly-anticipated ‘Transformers 6’ film on the scheduled summer release slot.
