HERNDON, Va., May 03, 2017 -- pureIntegration, the solution integration experts that deliver extraordinary value, today announced that on the behalf of cable industry clients, they are working with Semtech Coporation (Nasdaq:SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, to develop a commercial integration of a LoRaWAN™-based solution on the RDK-B software platform.

The LoRaWAN specification, from the LoRa Alliance™, is a leading global, open standard Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) solution for Internet of Things and Smart City initiatives. It is intended to enable battery operated sensors and devices to communicate updates at very low data rates over long ranges and periods of time, which is ideal for many IoT applications.
RDK-B is the cable industry’s Reference Design Kit, a software platform specifically for broadband services. The platform is used by several operators and is a core element for delivering services. As operators move to offer IoT and Smart City services, they are in need of integration to LPWAN solutions.
“We are excited to work with Semtech and our cable clients to go where nobody has gone before," says Chris Kocks, Director of pureIntegration’s IoT Practice. “Our joint efforts will accelerate deployments by the operators. This is a pivotal moment enabling operators to sieze a market leadership role in IoT. The LoRaWAN specification is one of several wireless technologies we are working with to deliver IoT and Smart City solutions,” says Kocks. He adds, “Regional and global IoT solutions require hybrid wireless network options in many cases. It means integrating low-power solutions on the same platform with low-latency high-data (think high vehicle-to-vehicle communication) applications. It might also mean crossing over to 5G cellular or satellite networks depending upon the use case or best path for communication in a specific region of the world.”
“By demonstrating the successful integration of Semtech’s LoRa® devices and wireless RF technology into the core network of cable operators, we are enabling a scalable, low cost LPWAN deployment model that can leverage millions of cable network access points,” said Marc Pegulu, Vice President and General Manager of Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group. “It’s important for the LoRa ecosystem to create a widely distributed IoT network that will help the increasing needs for Smart City solutions.”
