Fans, who labeled themselves as the Alita Army, have found another ally from the “Alita: Battle Angel” cast. Actor Keean Johnson has confirmed that he has also been a fan of the first movie and hopes that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” would happen in the future.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ plot: Keean Johnson joins fans in hoping for a sequel
It has been more than a year now since the first film was released in theaters worldwide. The companies involved in the production and distribution of the movie, however, have yet to comment on its future. At this point, the making of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is still uncertain.
The good news for fans is that Rosa Salazar and top members of the production team have all confirmed they would want to work on a sequel if given a chance. Johnson is the most recent to join Alita Army’s hopes.
“After hearing stuff from [James Cameron] and Robert [Rodriguez] about where the world could go – I think the more that could come out, the better it’d get,” Johnson told UNILAD when asked about “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” He added, “There’s so many different things that could happen and so much material.” Johnson portrayed the scrap dealer Hugo, who then fell in love with the cyborg Alita (Salazar).
“Alita: Battle Angel” is a live-action movie adaptation of the cyberpunk Japanese manga titled “Gunnm.” Anyone who has followed the series during its serialization from 1990 to 1995 knows that the first movie barely scratched the surface of the original source material. So there is no doubt that once Disney greenlights the making of “Alita: Battle Angel 2,” producer Cameron and director Rodriguez will not run out of story materials.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ possible release date: It could take several years before arriving in theaters
Salazar and co-producer Jon Landau have both confirmed that Disney is now the one to decide whether or not “Alita: Battle Angel 2” would be released. They have encouraged fans to show the studio how much they want to see a sequel, and it is fair to say that the Alita Army is doing just that.
However, even if “Alita: Battle Angel 2” gets the green light anytime soon, it could take several years before the sequel sees the day of light. The production of the first movie reportedly started in fall 2016 – it did not premiere until February 2019.
