FX has released its first look at actress Penelope Cruz, who will portray fashion designer Donatella Versace, in the upcoming anthology series “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”
First debuted on Entertainment Weekly, Cruz slays in a blonde wig and a sexy, silk dress with a huge slit, showcasing her long legs. She is seated on a fancy chair, surrounded by a pair of muscled men in sexy swimming trunks bearing what seems to be the logo of the iconic fashion house. The setting appears to be a replica of Villa Casa Casuarina, the Miami Beach mansion where Gianni had lived until his death.
The real-life Donatella has been instrumental in the longevity of her brother’s fashion house. Taking control over the empire since her brother’s murder by former lover and serial killer Andrew Cunanan in 1997, Versace remains to be a high-profile luxury fashion brand.
TV Guide said the new image seems like series creator Ryan Murphy will be doing away with the seriousness and gritty neutrals that were themes to the show’s previous season, the multi-awarded “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.” Even if it is a show about a serial killer, the upcoming show might be all glitz and glamour.
“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” will be starred by Cruz, Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin as his long-time partner, Antonio D’Amico, and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, Screenrant said.
