‘American Horror Story’ Season 8 Episode 4 Air Date, Spoilers: Draws Parallel to Kavanaugh-Ford Case? Women vs Men

“American Horror Story” Season 8 Episode 4 was supposed to be about the world ending because witches and warlocks can’t get along. However, with recent political developments being what they are, it can be difficult not to draw a parallel to what’s going on in the real world and on TV. After all, the backstory behind the whole season is about men wanting to gain power over women.

For a more show-centric recap of “American Horror Story” Season 8 Episode 4, Show Snob notes how a group of warlocks got a young male magic user in the form of Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) out of trouble. They did so because they wanted to test him and see if he could be more powerful than Cordelia (Sarah Paulson).

On its face, this might just seem like a battle between two warring factions who are struggling for power, more than anything else. However, Vulture has another take on it. All through the publication’s coverage of “American Horror Story” Season 8 Episode 4, it frequently points out the misogynistic nature of the warlocks. The whole thing devolves to being a Boys vs. Girls, kind of thing.

The warlocks are painted as a group composed of impotent men trying to usurp the power of the witches, who are composed of women. The former is attempting to do so with a male magic user who they fittingly refer to as the “Alpha.” As in, “Alpha Male.” This is where “American Horror Story” Season 8 Episode 4 begins to draw a parallel between the show and the Kavanaugh-Ford case.

As the US Supreme Court hearing shows, it’s clear that the Senate, which is mostly composed of old, white males, is ignoring the testimonies of women accusing judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. Among them is Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has become entangled in a power struggle in Washington. It’s the reverse situation that “American Horror Story” Season 8 Episode 4 showcases.

Basically, “American Horror Story” Season 8 Episode 4 and the rest of the season’s premise can be seen as about men fearing women who threaten their power. The warlocks are impotent compared to the witches. This is what the men over at Washington fear will happen to them unless they can solidify their power with yet another white male on the Supreme Court.
