Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt prevented another media frenzy after reaching a custody agreement prior to a scheduled court trial this week. Will this affect how they will celebrate the holidays with their six children?
Jolie’s lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean confirmed in a statement that her client and Pitt drafted the custody arrangements “weeks ago.” It was then signed by the estranged couple and later finalized by a judge, according to reports on Friday. It prevented them from going on trial that was supposedly happening on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
“The agreement, which is based on the recommendations of the child custody evaluator, eliminates the need for a trial. The filing and details of the agreement are confidential to protect the best interests of the children,” Jolie’s lawyer explained about the agreement with Pitt.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt’s lawyer or representatives have yet to officially comment on the reports. But a source dished some of the details of his custody agreement with Angelina Jolie. The estranged couple will reportedly “have joint physical and legal custody of the children,” the insider told Us Weekly.
The visits within the next “six to eight weeks” as well as the children’s “first overnight visits” with Pitt will be monitored, according to the same source. It was also reported that it was Jolie’s ex who actually wanted the first sleepovers at his place to be monitored hoping “to make the transition as smooth as possible.”
The custody settlement is just one aspect of Jolie and Pitt’s divorce but the former Hollywood power couple intends to resolve it without going to trial. Both parties reportedly requested an extension of until June 30, 2019, to draft a divorce settlement.
Just as when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally settled the custody of their children, another rumor came up claiming that the actress wants to take away the kids for the holidays. A report from OK! magazine said Jolie is planning to bring the children to France leaving Pitt alone for Christmas. However, Gossip Cop debunked the story following a statement from “a Pitt confidante” that the tabloid magazine’s report was “untrue.”
