Who knew that Sigourney Weaver would be the best person to bring the hype about James Cameron's upcoming sequel to his 2009 sci-fi feature.?“Avatar” may not have as big a fandom as “Star Wars” but the 69-year old actress assures the franchise's fans that there is more in store beyond the upcoming “Avatar 2.”
Fans may remember that Weaver's original character, Dr. Grace Augustine, was killed during the first “Avatar” movie. But back in 2017, the “Aliens” actress shared that she was in talks to shoot material for not just “Avatar 2,” but at least 3 more “Avatar” movies as well.
With the revelation that somehow Weaver's character will be making a comeback in the mega-blockbuster's sequel, fans may think that nothing else about “Avatar 2” could surprise viewers. But Weaver – who was recently in Italy for the Rome Film Fest after wrapping up work for “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3” – teases more details about the upcoming movie.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sigourney Weaver shares that she is about to start work on the production for “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5.” For fans still wondering how exactly Dr. Augustine survives her death from the first movie, Weaver does not reveal much but she states that the character she will play in “Avatar 2” will be the same character she plays all the way to the franchise's fifth installment.
In addition to Weaver's teaser about her character, she mentions that fans can now enjoy the wonders of underwater scenes in “Avatar 2.” Back when the first “Avatar” was released, reliable underwater motion capture technology was yet to be developed. It seems James Cameron is dedicated to bringing a new experience for fans in the upcoming installment.
Fans looking forward to seeing the movie magic teased by Weaver can hopefully get to watch “Avatar 2” when it graces movie theaters on Dec. 18, 2020. Fans should be ready to bring the hype as the upcoming film is ready to be followed by further sequels to be released between 2021 and 2025.
