It looks like the happy days will be over for the Reagan family after Jamie (Will Estes) and Janko (Vanessa Ray) announced their engagement. Estes confirmed that the feud between Jamie and his father, Frank (Tom Selleck), is one of the highlights of “Blue Bloods” season 9.

The romance between Jamie and Janko started from being patrol partners in the New York Police Department, whose commissioner (aka. the overall boss) is Frank. In season 8, a dangerous encounter made Jamie realize that life is short so he eventually proposed to Janko — a major surprise in the finale. However, not every Reagan approves of this happy news and that will be further explored in “Blue Bloods” season 9.

As mentioned, Jamie is the son of the NYPD commissioner. With that, Frank is more concerned about how Jamie’s relationship with Janko will affect his performance as a police officer in “Blue Bloods” season 9. “We’re definitely butting heads over that issue,” Estes confirmed to Newsweek.

The actor further explained that Frank sees that Jamie and Janko are going to be the first case of engaged officers who will also be riding together as patrol partners in all of NYPD history. And, obviously, that image will not sit well with the Reagan patriarch in “Blue Bloods” season 9.

In this case, Frank has the upper hand as he can immediately assign them new partners in “Blue Bloods” season 9. “The [commanding officer] has the ability to separate partners, so it would never be allowed on the job,” Estes added. “We’re fighting for that because the reason we didn’t enter into a relationship earlier is we didn’t want to give up our partnership on the streets.”

However, Estes hinted that Jamie will not give up that easily. The actor teased that Jamie will be using their top-notch performance as patrol partners to leverage and argue his case of not getting assigned a new partner in “Blue Bloods” season 9.

Considering that Jamie thinks highly of Frank as his father and his commanding officer, it is interesting to see how this mini power struggle will be resolved. “Blue Bloods” season 9 will premiere on Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
