Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) will be facing more than a major blackout crisis in “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4. Teasers hint at the discovery of a possible string of malpractices within the NYPD.

The “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4 title, “Blackout,” makes it obvious that the upcoming installment will focus on a citywide power outage. Based on real-life events in the past, blackouts typically lead to widespread crimes that immensely stretch out the police force.

However, in the case of “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4, it appears that Frank’s problems will not end once New York City gets back its power supply up and running. The official synopsis reveals that Frank will uncover “some unpleasant truths” about the NYPD.

Meanwhile, in one of the sneak peek videos for “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4, Frank is trying to convince Sidney Gormley (Robert Clohessy) to investigate the activities of Borough Commander Russo (Jack Mulcahy) during the blackout.

Gormley is obviously not liking the idea of undermining a friend and a “good cop.” But Frank wants to check out if Russo is being a good cop while the entire NYC is literally in the dark. If Frank discovers a suspicious operation that is linked to the blackout, Gormley might lose a friend in “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4.

Jamie (Will Estes) and Janko (Vanessa Ray) are also not having a great time, according to another video teaser for “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4. The engaged couple is going to argue about an undercover case that will be assigned to Janko.

Based on their heated conversation, Janko could be investigating the case of a serial rapist in “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4. Jamie sternly tells his fiancée that she should steer clear of the undercover work. But Janko retaliates, saying she fits the victims' profile and it is dangerous for everyone if the suspect remains free.

Janko and Jamie’s argument also appears to show the different perception by men and women of the topic of sexual assault. The question now is if Jamie will pull his I-am-your-sergeant card on Janko to ultimately stop her from becoming “a piece of bait” in “Blue Bloods” season 9 episode 4, which will air on Friday, Oct. 19, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
