“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 is slated to premiere in early 2019. Fans can only hope that the first episode immediately reveals whether or not Capt. Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) is the new NYPD Commissioner.
After Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy’s (Melissa Fumero) wedding in the season 5 finale, the squad went to Shaw’s Bar where Holt confirmed he got the email about the commissioner selection. Of course, the closing credits rolled even before Holt could reveal the email’s content and his facial expression did not help either. But there is no doubt that this is where “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 will pick up.
What are the chances that Holt gets chosen as the new NYPD Commissioner? As established in the previous seasons, his track record has been impressive. But being an openly gay cop has immensely slowed down his promotion. If ever he becomes the commissioner in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6, it would be a well-deserved break.
However, there are consequences as far as future storylines will go if Holt becomes NYPD commissioner in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6. Obviously, he has to leave the 99th precinct again. Season 3 already proved a major disarray is imminent once Holt leaves. So even if Holt deserves the position, there is still a big chance that he will remain in the 99th precinct.
Meanwhile, there is also the possibility that the future of Holt’s career in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 was already foreshadowed in the season 5 finale. While at Shaw’s, Gina (Chelsea Peretti) said Holt was afraid to read the email all day. But then the Captain quoted Amy, “I was until I heard something very wise tonight. Life is unpredictable. Not everything is under our control. But as long as we’re with the right people, we can handle anything.”
Obviously, the “right people” for Holt are in the 99th precinct. Does this mean Holt wins the commissioner job but later turns it down to be with the “right people” for the entirety of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6?
The wait for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 is now down to a couple of months, according to another series regular, Terry Crews. The actor said in an Instagram post that the show will return “in January [2019] on NBC.”
