“Dancing with the Stars” Season 27’s week 2 battle was rattled by controversies after blind Paralympics participant Danelle Umstead was eliminated. The episode that aired on Tuesday, Oct. 2, started with the contenders parading their talent in new fun dance routines and it was great. But it ended with angry comments due to some technical glitches that led to Umstead’s exit.
The second week of “Dancing with the Stars” Season 27 was indeed filled with surprises and while there were many good moments, many viewers were disappointed with the outcome of the celebrity dance contest. In fact, they were mad, Good Housekeeping reported.
After the performances, based on the scores from the judges and online votes, two pairs were put in danger of being sent home. John Schneider and Emma Slater and Danielle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev were in the firing line, and as mentioned earlier, the latter duo was pushed out of “DWTS.”
AOL News reported that “Dancing with the Stars” Season 27’s week 2 was supposed to be a night of double elimination but only one pair was voted out, and apparently, it was a result of a glitch in the voting process.
The publication stated that after the announcement of who was eliminated, “DWTS” host Tom Bergeron admitted that there was a technical issue in the voting system. He went on to explain that the phone-in votes for this week were not counted so the results were based only on the judges’ scores and votes that were accumulated online.
“I’m so sorry,” the host told Danelle after he announced the results. “I want you to know that the looks on all of the faces of the couples you’re competing with are as sad as you no doubt feel to say goodbye to you.”
Erin Andrews, who co-hosts “Dancing with the Stars” Season 27, added, “And the judges, too, by the way.” The audience was heard yelling “We love you” to Umstead.
Danelle Umstead is blind but she obviously worked hard to learn the dance steps. Her partner also praised her and called her “an inspiration” to others. Learning ballroom dancing was very challenging for her yet she did amazingly and fans are applauding for her, and this was one reason why they were sad to see her go.
