“Doctor Who” season 11 is set to air and fans will meet the 13th protagonist in the series. Although there have been many surprising spoilers due to leaked information and details, fans are still very excited to see what the show has to offer.
By now, most people already know that “Doctor Who” season 11 is set to return with a new doctor and it is a woman. Previously, a leaked clip revealed that Jodie Whittaker has taken over and she is the newest reincarnated being of the Time Lord. She replaces Peter Capaldi, who exited the show in last year’s Christmas special titled “Twice Upon a Time.”
While fans wait for the show to begin, below are the other things that we know about “Doctor Who” season 11 so far. Check them out to get some advance knowledge of what is to come in the series.
Upgraded Set
As per Metro, “Doctor Who” season 11 will get a major upgrade in the special effects department. It was said that it will feature more CGI special effects which viewers have never seen before in the series. This means that the next installment will be on par with Hollywood movies that showcase incredible cutting-edge backdrops.
Likewise, we can all expect numerous avant-garde visual effects that are far from the props that were used previously. In short, everything will be more realistic as Doctor Who and her companions time-travel and encounter new adventures along the way.
Commenting on the upgraded set for “Doctor Who” season 11, director Jennifer Perrott told Doctor Who magazine (via Metro), “I did have a zany action sequence in studio where we just had the actors, green screen and fans blowing their hair – the entire world around them will be created with visual effects.”
What Can We Expect?
Director Perrott said that the 11th season “has opened the door for more human stories” while the world is being saved from alien invasion. Moreover, the writers of the series, Pete McTighe, Joy Wilkinson and Ed Hime, divulged that the upcoming episodes will be much darker compared to the past seasons and it will be creepy too.
Doctor Who’s Travel Companions
As announced via a press release on BBC’s “Doctor Who” page, season 11 will introduce three new companions who will be traveling with the 13th Doctor and they are Graham (Bradley Walsh), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Yasmin (Mandip Gill). It was added that Sharon D. Clarke will also join the cast in a returning role but her character was not mentioned.
"The casting of Mandip, Tosin and Bradley is a mark of the new creative ambition Chris (Chibnall, showrunner) is bringing to Doctor Who,” Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, said. “He's already made history with the casting of Jodie. These three new characters complete a new and utterly unmissable team aboard the TARDIS."
Air Date
“Doctor Who” season 11 wrapped up production on Aug. 4 so its premiere is not far off. While there is no official word from either BBC or the showrunner, it was suggested that it will arrive in October.
