Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus called the Biden administration's DOJ actions against Elon Musk and Donald Trump 'dictatorial,' accusing officials of weaponizing legal powers to silence political opponents. Markus’s remarks follow Kamala Harris’s recent statements, which drew criticism from figures like Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson.
Markus Condemns DOJ's Targeting of Trump and Musk
Vice President Kamala Harris had previously blasted Donald Trump for reportedly intending to weaponize the Department of Justice against political opponents upon reelection, and the comments made by the co-founder of Dogecoin followed suit.
The current administration, according to Markus, is already using comparable tactics against Trump and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, among others.
He stressed that the use of the DOJ as a weapon against political opponents is consistent with dictatorial practices.
DOJ’s Warning to Musk’s PAC Sparks Debate
His remarks follow the Department of Justice's warning to Elon Musk's America PAC on the $1 million voter lottery, which was issued only days ago. If the gift breaks any federal voting restrictions, legal experts can't agree on what those regulations are.
Even more so, the co-founder of Dogecoin stated that authoritarian governments use legal mechanisms to censor their opponents. His main point was:
“Kamala Harris is correct, weaponizing the Department of Justice against political enemies is indeed something dictators do. Like, for example, the Democrats going after Donald Trump and Elon Musk.”
Media Manipulation Claims Over Musk’s Public Image
Per Coingape, the co-founder of Dogecoin has backed Elon Musk, whom he believes has been manipulated by the media, and has also criticized the Biden administration.
Markus claims that the public's view of Musk has been unjustly influenced by media narratives. According to Dogecoin's co-founder, the media has skewed the facts in favor of a "Elon Musk bad" narrative, which has impacted popular sentiment.
Hoskinson Criticizes Harris’s Hitler Comparison
Charles Hoskinson, creator of Cardano, disagreed with Kamala Harris's remarks during this discussion. Harris compared Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler and other authoritarian leaders, citing his political acts as examples.
The comparison was met with criticism from Hoskinson, who contended that such remarks trivialize the gravity of previous crimes and sow discord.
Musk’s Continued Financial Support for Trump’s Campaign
The CEO of Tesla, meantime, has kept up his financial backing for US presidential candidate Donald Trump, donating more than $118 million to Trump's political action committee.
Elon Musk has reportedly kept in touch with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a frequent basis, talking about business and geopolitics among other things.
