“Dying Light 2” has been one of the more successful games that launched this year, which is quite a feat considering the list of AAA titles that were released in the first months of 2022. Developer Techland recently offered a few details about the first story DLC, suggesting that it might not be anything the fans expect.
In an interview with Game Informer, “Dying Light 2” lead game designer Tymon Smektała recognized that there have been many speculations on how the story will continue after the base game. But he said that none of the theories he saw is “close to the mark” of what they are planning for the first story DLC.
While there is a general pattern to how the story ends in “Dying Light 2,” particularly for main protagonist Aiden, player choices make significant changes to the nuances of the narrative. Some decisions could even lead to the death of the majority of people, while other choices would lead to the destruction of X13 without causing severe repercussions to the rest of the population.
It is then not surprising that fans can come up with plenty of speculations on how the story would move forward from the base game’s narrative. But Smektała said Techland does not want to be predictable, and that the first “Dying Light 2” story DLC is not even planned to tell a story that strictly follows what happened after the main story. Smektała did not give specific details but confirmed that the story DLC’s narrative would happen “sideways to the main events.”
“At some point, we will actually start adding to the events that happened at the end of the game,” Smektała added. “We have some ideas. On paper, as they are implemented right now, it seems promising, but definitely, this will be a challenge.”
It all starts on release, but it's just the beginning! We're planning to keep enhancing the game with DLCs, challenges, stories, events, and more for at least 5 years, and that's a minimum! You sure won't be bored!#DyingLight2 #StayHuman pic.twitter.com/ppJvu2G1sm

A few weeks ahead of the “Dying Light 2” launch last month, Techland released the first year roadmap and confirmed that it plans to support the game for at least five years. For the first year roadmap, the biggest anticipated update is the release of the first story DLC and it is slated to arrive sometime in June.
