AMC's “The Walking Dead” spin-off has yet to be as storied as its older sister series, but the people behind the show aren't afraid to tread dark waters in “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 showrunners Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss mention that one of the series's most optimistic characters, John Dorie, played by Garret Dillahunt, will continue to get disillusioned as the series progresses. Fans will remember that Dorie kept some licorice in his pocket, which was his way of hoping to be reunited with June (Jenna Elfman).
Unfortunately, fans get to witness the optimistic Dorie, who has been struggling since the first half of the “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4, to be reunited with his love finally giving up and eating the licorice. Goldberg mentions that while Dorie is still a fighter, it will be an uhill climb for his character to regain the optimism he once had.
Goldberg and Chambliss also mention that the mysterious filthy woman (Tonya Pinkins) will be important to the feeling of dread that “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 will continue to have. Goldberg mentions that the filthy woman is the polar opposite of Clayton (Stephen Henderson) – a former truck-driving loner before the apocalypse who has learned to be good to other humans once the zombie outbreak happened. Clayton was partly responsible for the care packages on the road that survivors used to encounter and which the filthy woman despised.
Chambliss goes on to add that the filthy woman does have a good reason for her point of view that the charity that people like Clayton do only makes them weaker. This reason is what compels her to stop the survivors from engaging in acts of charity themselves, even possibly at the cost of the survivors' lives. Chambliss mentions that the next few episodes of “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 will slowly unravel the identity and the reasons driving the filthy woman.
Fans of AMC's zombie apocalypse spinoff can catch “Fear the Walking Dead” season 4 episode 14 airing on Sept. 16.
