“The Office” alum John Krasinski is back to playing the titular CIA agent role for “Jack Ryan” season 3 after he was spotted around Rome, Italy to begin filming for the popular political thriller. This could be a hint that new episodes are likely to premiere sometime next year.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 3 production begins after COVID-19 delay
Amazon Prime Video ordered “Jack Ryan” season 3 months before the second season premiered in fall 2019. While there was no release window provided for the third installment, it was assumed as one of the film and TV productions that got delayed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
It can be recalled that Krasinski mentioned in June that he was going to start working on “Jack Ryan” season 3 “very soon.” And fans saw the first look at the production, with on-set photos emerging online showing Krasinski in character in various locations in Rome, including the Spanish Steps that famously leads to the Piazza de Spagna square as well as in Hotel Saint Regis.
Photos were taken during the “Jack Ryan” season 3 filming also show Krasinski and other people on set were practicing COVID-19 safety measures. In pictures where Krasinski stands close to the filming crew, they are seen wearing face masks, a practice that has has been recommended by health experts if it would be difficult to maintain social distancing.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 3 plot, cast, release date: What to expect
Seeing “Jack Ryan” season 3 film in Italy is also an important piece of information as it suggests the show will continue having a plot with actions taking place in various parts of the world. Considering that Jack Ryan is a CIA agent, seeing him in action in worldwide locations is not surprising. It can be recalled that while the center of action in season 2 was in Venezuela, Jack Ryan still spent several episodes in Europe to deal with other targets related to his case.
However, the reason for Jack’s Italian visit remains under wraps. The main conflict in season 2 was sufficiently dealt with in the finale. While the show could revisit some of the plot themes from the earlier seasons, it is very likely for “Jack Ryan” season 3 to present an all-new enemy and problem for Jack to solve.
Aside from Krasinski, Wendell Pierce is highly anticipated to reprise his role as James Greer in“Jack Ryan” season 3. Michael Kelly is also expected to return after his character Mike November emerged to be a trustworthy ally in the field for Jack. With filming already underway this time, new episodes are likely to be released sometime between the middle through late 2021.
