Harris Dominates as Newsom Trails Behind
Trailing far behind Harris is California Governor Gavin Newsom, who secured only 8% of the votes. Despite his high-profile leadership in the Golden State, Newsom appears unable to capture the momentum needed to close the gap. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro landed in third place with 7%, followed closely by Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, each receiving 6%.
The stark disparity in support underscores Harris’s unique standing within the party. Analysts suggest her national visibility, paired with her historic role as the first woman of color to serve as Vice President, has cemented her popularity among Democratic voters.
Progressive Favorites and Newcomers Struggle to Gain Traction
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the most prominent progressive voices in Congress, captured just 4% of the vote. Meanwhile, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer garnered 3%, rounding out the list of prominent contenders in single digits. Other candidates, including Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, failed to break past 2%, highlighting the significant gap between Harris and the rest of the field.
