‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ adds Jeff Bridges to Star-Studded Cast including Channing Tatum, Halle Berry; British Spies Team Up with American Allies

Jeff Bridges joins the new cast of 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle'

‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ is set to feature Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges alongside a star-studded cast including Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, and Julianne Moore. The new film follows the Kingsmen Eggsy and Merlin as they team up with their allies in the United States.

According to the Independent, Bridges took to social media to announce his involvement with the second installment in the spy-action comedy series by posting an image on Twitter that read “The only Golden Circle I want vexing me is the one my glass leaves behind on the table.”

Bridges is known for his work on several critically acclaimed films including 1984’s ‘Starman’, 2000’s ‘The Contender, 2009’s ‘Crazy Heart’ and 2010’s ‘True Grit’. He is also popular for playing some of the quirkiest characters in film namely Jeffrey “the Dude” Lebowski in Joel and Ethan Cohen’s neo-noir comedy film ‘The Big Lebowski’.

He joins returning stars Taron Egerton who plays Eggsy Unwin and Mark Strong who plays Merlin. Other new cast members include Julianne Moore as the newest main villain Poppy, Halle Berry as Statesman agent Ginger, and Pedro Pascal as Jack Daniels. Elton John and Channing Tatum are also the most recent additions to the cast although their characters are yet to be known.

The sequel is set to follow Eggsy and Merlin as they head to the United States to join with their American counterpart, Statesman. According to /Film, the Statesman headquarters is disguised as a whiskey distillery and Bridges’ drink reference may be a clue that he would be one of the American spies – specifically their leader.

The British spy organization is prompted to join forces with Statesman after the former is left in tatters following the events in the first film ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’. The Kingsmen had to defeat the megalomaniac billionaire, Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson), unaware that their own leader Chester King (Michael Caine) was in cahoots with the enemy the entire time.

Director Matthew Vaughn’s first film in the series received positive reviews from critics and earned mainstream success at the box office, earning $414.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $81 million. It became Vaughn’s most successful film to date.

‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ is an upcoming adventure-comedy spy film scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017. Filming commenced on October 2013 in Surrey in England. It is produced by Vaughn, Adam Bohling, and David Reid.
