Former “Twilight” actors Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson may feel that they have left their roles as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in the past, but fans still hold on to the hope that they will reprise their beloved roles sometime soon. But it seems that Stewart and Pattinson will not have to worry about playing Bella and Edward anytime soon – even if a reboot does get greenlit.
In a report by Newsweek, “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke recently opened up at the New York Comic-Con about how things could be different if a “Twilight” reboot does happen. Hardwicke cited moving beyond the original casting of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson with a potentially more diverse cast thanks to options from a modern actor pool. Hardwicke excitedly talked about potentially having an all-female cast, mentioning Amandla Stenberg as an interesting casting choice.
According to Hardwicke, she had initially proposed a diverse cast for the original series, which Stephanie Meyer rejected. While Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson ended up becoming household names due to their affinity for the roles of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, it seems that Hardwicke would be more excited to be able to execute her original vision of a more diverse cast if “Twilight” were rebooted.
Both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were asked recently about doing a “Twilight” reboot or sequel, which both stars dodged humorously. Neither Stewart nor Pattinson gave commitments to play their old roles should an actual reboot project happen.
It seems fans of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will just have to accept that a “Twilight” reboot is not something that the original cast members are interested in doing anytime soon. But hopefully, Catherine Hardwicke's vision of a new “Twilight” can bring something fresh to the series after Stewart and Pattinson's era.
