A majority of Singaporeans remain undecided ahead of the anticipated 2025 general election, but support for the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) remains strong among those who have made up their minds, according to a recent YouGov poll.
The survey, conducted in March with 1,845 respondents, found that only 44% had decided on their vote. Among them, 63% expressed support for the PAP, while 15% backed the leading opposition Workers’ Party (WP). Despite PAP’s lead, analysts say the results indicate growing competition, with 50% of all respondents holding a favorable view of the PAP and 42% viewing the WP positively.
The upcoming election marks the first major electoral test for Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who succeeded Lee Hsien Loong as PAP leader in May 2024. Singapore’s electoral boundaries were recently revised—an action often seen as a precursor to an election call. The vote must take place by November.
There are 2.76 million eligible voters in Singapore, with 97 parliamentary seats to be contested across 15 single-member constituencies and 18 group representation constituencies.
Voter certainty was found to be highest among baby boomers, with 51% having decided their vote, compared to 30–39% among younger voters aged 21–44. Population data shows that baby boomers make up about 855,800 of the electorate, while millennials and Gen Z voters combined account for approximately 1.17 million.
The data suggests that while the PAP maintains an edge, the younger electorate could play a decisive role in shaping the outcome of this high-stakes election.
